All StarBand services are being discontinued from 30th September 2015 and the following frequently asked questions will be useful for anyone that will be affected by this change.
What Should I Do Next?
You do not need to take any action to disconnect from any StarBand services. Disconnection will take place automatically on 30 September 2015. If you wish to continue using satellite based internet services then you will need to find another provider. A quick internet search should provide you with a list of companies that may be able to help. You may also choose to move away from a satellite based provider and choose a service that uses cable. The equipment that has been provided by StarBand will not be able to be used when you sign up with another company, and so you will need to ensure that you receive the necessary equipment from your new company.
Can I Keep The Service By Paying More?
StarBand services have been discontinued because the system has simply become too expensive to run. Even if the prices were to increase, there are no guarantees that this would raise enough money to pay for the service to continue. While some customers may be happy to pay an increased price, others may not, especially when they can get a cheaper service elsewhere. For these reasons, it has been decided that an increase in pricing is not a feasible solution in order to continue offering the service.
What Services Are Affected?
All services that are currently offered by StarBand will be discontinued from 30 September 2015. In addition to any satellite internet services that you are using, any StarBand email addresses that are in use will also be unavailable after this date. If you have an email address you will need to ensure that you have an alternative set up that you will be able to use when your StarBand address can no longer be accessed. It may also be wise to inform all of your contacts about your change of email address.
What Will Happen To My Equipment?
StarBand will not be taking any action to retrieve their equipment, so you will need to dispose of it yourself, as it will not be able to use once services have been discontinued. StarBand does recommend that the equipment is disposed of in an ecofriendly manner so that no damage is caused to the environment.
What Action Do I Need To Take?
You do not need to take any action in order to stop receiving StarBand services as this will happen automatically on 30 September 2015. If you wish to cancel your subscription before this, then you should contact StarBand so that they will be able to take action with your request. You will continue to be billed in line with your normal schedule, but you will only be charged until the time when your services are discontinued. You should pay off your final payment as normal once it has been received.
